DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) is a high purity solution in water (32.5% urea and 67.5% deionized water) that is used to chemically transform harmful nitrogen oxide emissions from diesel vehicles into harmless water vapor and nitrogen. DEF is added to a separate storage tank in vehicles equipped with a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system. One advantage of using DEF is that it is certified by the American Petroleum Institute (API) and contains no chemical additives, thereby preserving the purity of your diesel exhaust fluid and a well-functioning SCR system and reducing air pollution.
According to engine manufacturers, DEF & SCR also improves fuel economy by approximately 5% compared to competing technologies. It is an easy-to-use, low-cost solution for meeting new EPA Clean Air requirements.
